The Research Behind the More Connection Cam

The More Connection Cam is a simple laptop accessory, that allows for people who use it to make eye contact over video call. The product does this by giving the user the ability to look at the person they are talking to on the screen in front of them, while simultaneously allowing them looking down the lens of their webcam. This way, the user is able to speak to the person, and appear to be making “eye contact” with the camera. When both people use a device, people have said this experience is like “eye-to-eye”contact and as if the other person is speaking to them “face-to-face”. There are optimal ways to use the More Connection Cam to improve the quality of connection, and More Connection Co is committed to improving our product to maximize its ability to help make online connections feel more authentic, and natural. Using an electroencephalogram (EEG), Brunel University London has conducted psychological research that has identified, with devices using the same eye correction as the MoreConnection Cam, a way create a more connected video calling experience for users.

The Science

Research has found that people’s brainwaves synchronize during social interaction (Valencia & Froese, 2020), which is associated with cooperation (Balconi & Vanutelli, 2017; Balconi et al., 2020) and emotional closeness (Kinreich et al., 2017). This interbrain synchronization also seems to increase when eye contact is made (Luft et al., 2022).
